Recording Conversations
Someone recently posted the following question in the “ask a question” area of the site “can I record a conversation with another employee without their permission?”
Answering this with a definitive Yes or No would be irresponsible without a clear understanding of the situation, but here is some basic information that might be helpful. In 38 of the 50 states a person can record a conversation for which they are a party without seeking the consent of the other party involved. For a list of these states click here. Please note that caution must be taken in regards to what the recording will be used for and what the conversation is about. Also note that in order to record telephone conversations between your employees and others requires their knowledge and consent.
In order to ensure legality in your particular situation please contact your attorney or an HR representative of A Plus Benefits.
